No immediate comment was available from Russia or its allies in the Syrian army, whose artillery pounded rebel areas in the countryside west of Aleppo. During past outbreaks of fighting, Damascus and Russia have said they only target insurgent groups and deny indiscriminate attacks on civilians. Damascus has in recent rounds of Russian-brokered talks with Ankara demanded that Turkey withdraw a formidable military presence in the last foothold of the Syrian rebellion. Turkish troops based in the region have held back Russia and Damascus from a final assault to wrest back control of the enclave.

Rusia se ocupă de militarizarea intensă a Crimeii ocupate, unde și-a sporit în ultimul timp capacitățile militare, a declarat marți purtătorul de cuvânt al Direcției principale de informații a armatei ucrainene, Vadimi Skibițki, într-o intervenție la postul de televiziune Kanal5, citat de portalul ucrainean Rbc. La ora actuală, pericolul major pentru Ucraina este reprezentat de instalarea celor mai noi dispozitive capabile să transporte arme nucleare, aceasta în primul rând. În plus, mai spune el, Rusia și-a crescut numărul de avioane de luptă comasate pe teritoriul Crimeii, de unde acestea ar putea să vizeze orice punct de pe teritoriul Ucrainei. S-400 reprezintă un sistem ultramodern de apărare antiaeriană și antirachetă, cu o rază de 400 kilometri. Rusia mai are desfășurate astfel de sisteme la baza sa aeriana de la Hmeimim, în Siria.
